How To Care
Avoid placing paintings, whether original or printed, under direct sunlight. The colors may faid and become pale and dull.
To clean an acrylic or oil painting on canvas, start by gently dusting the surface with a soft brush or a microfiber cloth. For light dirt, a slightly damp, soft cloth with a mild soap solution (like olive oil soap) can be used. Avoid harsh chemicals, excessive moisture, or rubbing too hard, which can damage the paint.
Detailed Steps:
1. Dusting:
Use a soft brush (like a makeup brush or a camel hair brush) or a microfiber cloth to gently remove loose dust and debris.
Work in one direction to avoid scratching the canvas.
For delicate canvases, a linen cloth can also be used.
2. Light Cleaning:
If dusting isn't enough, create a mild soap solution by adding a few drops of olive oil-based soap (or other mild, non-astringent soap) to warm water.
Dampen a soft cloth or sponge with the solution, making sure it's not dripping wet.
Gently blot the painting, working in small sections, and avoid rubbing.
Use a clean, damp cloth to rinse off any soap residue.
3. Drying:
Allow the painting to air dry completely, preferably in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near a heat source.
4. Spot Cleaning:
For stubborn stains, try using a cotton swab dipped in distilled water (or a mild soap solution) to gently dab the affected area.
Test the solution on a hidden area first to ensure it doesn't damage the paint.
Avoid excessive moisture and blotting the same area repeatedly.
IMPORTANT CONSIDEARTIONS:
Never use harsh cleaning agents, solvents, or abrasive materials like rubbing alcohol or commercial cleaners.
Be gentle and avoid scrubbing or rubbing vigorously.
Always test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area first.
For valuable or particularly delicate paintings, consider consulting a professional art conservator.
